What’s in Our Brooder: New Additions at Carlton Hill Farm
This week, the brooder at Carlton Hill Farm is bustling with new life! We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of thirteen new chickens that will add variety, charm, and practicality to our growing flock. These little feathered friends will soon become an integral part of the farm ecosystem, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the journey with you.
Meet the Flock
8 Chocolate Orpingtons
Elegant and endearing, these beauties are renowned for their rich, chocolate-colored feathers that shimmer in the sunlight. Orpingtons are the epitome of calm and friendly chickens, making them perfect additions to our farm family. Not only are they prolific layers of large brown eggs, but they are also well-suited for meat production, making them a versatile dual-purpose breed, but their gentle temperament means they’ll likely become the stars of the farm.
5 Sapphire Gems
These chickens are as dazzling as their name suggests. With striking blue-gray plumage, Sapphire Gems add a splash of brilliance to the brooder. Known for their hardy nature and reliable egg-laying, they’re a dream for sustainable farming. Additionally, they are substantial enough for meat production, making them another valuable dual-purpose breed for our farm. These ladies will soon be delivering a steady supply of medium to large brown eggs, helping us continue our mission of providing locally grown, high-quality products to the community.
Why Chickens?
At Carlton Hill Farm, every addition to our farm is thoughtfully chosen to align with our sustainable practices and commitment to feeding our family and community. Chickens are a fantastic fit. Not only do they supply delicious eggs, but they also play a role in pest control and soil health through their scratching and foraging habits. Plus, their personalities bring so much joy and character to the farm.
Life in the Brooder
Right now, these chicks are staying warm and cozy in their brooder, a safe haven designed to give them the best start in life. With a brooding plate, fresh bedding, and plenty of space to explore, they’re already showing off their unique personalities. The Orpingtons have proven to be the laid-back crew, while the Sapphire Gems are curious adventurers, always leading the charge to investigate new corners of their world.
What’s Next?
Over the coming weeks, these chicks will grow and flourish, eventually moving to their outdoor coop when they’re ready. By the time they’re fully feathered, they’ll join our other animals in contributing to the farm’s rhythm.
We’ll keep you updated on their progress in our newsletter and blog, so stay tuned for more photos, stories, and milestones from the brooder!
