Opening Day: Equal Parts Excitement and Mild Panic

Today’s the day.

The farm stand is officially open, and we’re somewhere between “this is awesome” and “why do we feel like we forgot literally everything?”

This is the part of running a small farm nobody really talks about. Not the planting or the building or even the endless lists—but the moment when you open your gate to the public and hope people show up. Hope they get it. Hope they see the effort behind the eggs, the meat, the flowers, the manure bags (yep, those too).

Everything here was done by us. Not “us” in the corporate sense—just the actual two of us, on one acre, doing the work every day. There’s no team hiding behind the scenes. No manager to call when something breaks, the hose leaks, or someone asks a question we didn’t think of.

This is just our life. Open to the public.

And honestly, that’s kind of wild.

We built this to feed ourselves. That was always the point. But little by little, we realized we had enough to share. So we decided to go for it—rabbits, quail, chickens, produce, flowers—all coming together under one tiny roof (well, technically a stand).

It’s not a big operation, but it’s real. It’s local. It’s affordable. And it’s the result of a lot of sweat, a lot of trial and error, and a lot of standing in the yard wondering if this was actually going to work.

So if you stop by today and we look like we’re still mentally running through our checklists, it’s because we are. But we’re also excited. And proud. And honestly, just really glad to finally be open.

Here’s to small farms, community food, and figuring it out as we go.

Hope to see you soon.
